It’s no secret that our public water and sewer systems are in need of maintenance, repair, and upgrades, making them vulnerable to private corporations offering false solutions to cities struggling to pay for these necessities. When corporations take control of our water, they prioritize turning a profit, instead of access to clean, safe, affordable drinking water that we all need to survive. Unsurprisingly, after systems are privatized, water bills are often much higher than government-owned rates.

Fortunately, cities around the country are finding creative ways to keep their water systems out of corporate control. Our animation is narrated by Bernard Young, the Mayor of Baltimore — this is the first major city in the United States to ban certain forms of water privatization, setting a new standard for public water protection that other cities can aspire to follow.
